D Cell Batteries Freezing

    An FYI for some of you out there that use specialized alarm systems, that may not use the standard 12 volt 'gel cell' style batteries for power backup.

    We've got some that use "D" cell batteries for backup power. When the temperatures got really cold, some of the batteries actually froze (even though they had a good charge), and when it warmed up slightly, they leaked.

    We'd converted most of these systems over to 12 volt gel cells, with a custom built interface, but the few we needed to put in, and didn't have time to build the interface card will soon be replaced with the 12 volt gell cells.
