    Since the advent of obstruction strobe lighting, SO cord has been the industry term to describe the power cable from the controller to the flashhead. By detailing SO cord on a schematic or construction plan, you might run into a problem with your local building department. SO cord is not listed as an approved exterior conductor and an alert inspector will require you to run the cable inside conduit. The correct cable rated by the NEC for these type applications is called "power cable" or "tray cable".
