Structural Query - tension in u-bolts

    For the typical lightly loaded connections that use u-bolts that clamp a steel plate to a circular hollow section (for example):

    Although these connections are generally very lightly loaded, they do require some level of pre-tension in the bolt to ensure the clamping action will resist the applied loads.

    • Does anyone have information on the level of clamping action achieved when the bolts are specified as "snug tight"?
    • Alternatively, does anyone know whether these connections are usually specified with a certain level of bolt torque, rather than "snug tight".
