Weatherproofing Kits

Vinyl mastic weatherproofing kits allow for an easy installation byWeatherproofing Kits 1  using a vinyl-backed butyl tape. The mastic and electrical tapes are applied to provide a multi-layer, long-term environment seal for protecting transmission line connectors and splices.

Some kits come with five rolls of butyl rubber tape and three rolls of different sized black vinyl electrical tape. The number of connector or splices available with each kit will vary based upon the product manufacturer’s recommendations, but an average that can be used to estimate your purchase is:

  • 12 applications if the junction size is up to 1/2”
  • 8 applications if the junction size is 7/8”
  • 6 applications if the junction size is 1-1/4”
  • 4 applications if the junction size is 1-5/8”
  • 2 applications if the junction size is 2-1/4”

weatherproofing kitsUV and impact resistant weatherproofing solutions are also available in the form of a PVC enclosure that provides a water tight seal. Weighing approximately 2 pounds, they can accommodate transmission line sizes from 1/2" to 1-5/8". The weatherproofing system is not affected by extreme temperatures and can be used for connectors, inline splices, jumpers and ground kits. Although they are more expensive than a vinyl-backed butyl system, they will provide a one time material cost. Some owners find them to be an excellent alternative since they can be easily opened and resealed for sweep testing.
