The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) has released “A Roadmap to Unlocking Connectivity Everywhere in the Next Administration,” a policy playbook to spark the wireless deployment and investment necessary to end the digital divide and ensure the U.S. continues to lead the world in growth and innovation.
There are more than 558 million wireless connections in use in the U.S. every day and growing. Americans from all walks of life demand connectivity, which can only be supplied by the physical infrastructure enabling our networks. And Americans aren’t just relying on wireless when they’re on the go—fixed wireless is the fastest growing form of home broadband connectivity across the nation.
“As we move into 2025, the Trump Administration and Congress have a unique opportunity to free up new spectrum bolstered by critical infrastructure policy reforms that will serve as a springboard for finishing 5G deployment and setting the stage for all the future G’s. This is critical to America’s economic success and the safety and vitality of our communities, “said Patrick Halley, President and CEO, WIA.
WIA’s playbook outlines lasting reforms that will enable America’s wireless future in 2025 and well beyond. With a mixture of common-sense reforms and strengthening existing rules, the Trump Administration and Congress can build on the nation’s prior successes and set the stage for continued generational investments in wireless. These investments will pay off immediately in infrastructure jobs and new industry innovations, with an exponential effect on ending the digital divide to support America’s economy and communities.
To do so, WIA states, the Trump Administration and Congress must:
- Set a predictable, proportionate and transparent national framework for broadband permitting;
- Rightsize federal review of communications infrastructure projects;
- Invest in wireless;
- Create a spectrum pipeline to fuel our nation’s wireless needs;
- Modernize and streamline inefficient Federal practices and technologies;
- Develop the wireless workforce of tomorrow.
