NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association today announced that Emily Wiebe, a junior Civil Engineering major from Mequon, Wisconsin, has been named as the 2023 recipient of the Ernie Jones Memorial Civil Engineering Scholarship at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. The official announcement was made at the NATE Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, February 22 during the annual NATE UNITE 2023 Conference in Orlando, Florida.
Emily has gained extensive experience in the construction field and the safety protocols associated with fieldwork as an intern with raSmith. Additionally, Emily is a student athlete who participates on the University of Evansville’s soccer team. Emily plans to attend graduate school after finishing her undergraduate degree.
“Emily is a hardworking student who excels in all engineering courses,” stated Dr. Megan Voss-Warner, University of Evansville Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering. “As a student, Emily asks thoughtful questions on projects and is engaged in class. Her attention to detail is exceptional, and she takes the initiative to seek out not only answers to questions but also the reasoning behind them,” added Voss-Warner.
Ernie Jones was a structural engineer who worked in the broadcast tower industry for 30 years. During his career, Mr. Jones served as a Professional Engineer and President of Consolidated Engineering, Inc. and a Vice-President of Structural Engineering at Electronics Research, Inc. Ernie was also a participating member of the TR-14.7 Committee of the Telecommunications Industry Association and Electronics Industry Association since 1986 where he assisted with writing and approving the ANSI-TIA/EIA 222 Standard which is the American National Standard for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures.
The Ernie Jones Memorial Civil Engineering Scholarship awards a $2,500 NATE-funded scholarship annually to a junior or senior-level civil engineering student at the University of Evansville’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
