Petzl, is requesting that the users of its rope grab, the ASAP LOCK, inspect the unit to ensure that there are no cracks on the stainless steel arms.

During a routine inspection on March, 30, 2016, one customer detected three of these products to have the cracks and they will be returned to Petzl for analysis, according to information provided by Petzl.

However, the company has taken immediate action, inspecting their inventory, and they have not found any cracked arms.

In performing a risk assessment for users, the company cut the arms at each rivet and  conducted a load test, finding that there was no deformation of the cuts due to the dynamic test, and “a cracked arm presents no additional immediate risk to the user.”

Nonetheless, Petzl said that any units with cracks in the arm should be immediately retired and the user should contact their distributor for a replacement under warranty.
