The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) announced that it plans to recognize Susan Johnson, Executive Vice President of Global Connections & Supply Chain, AT&T, with its Distinguished Service Award. The WIA Foundation will present the honor at the 2019 WIA Awards on Oct. 1 in Washington, D.C.
“Susan’s accomplishments represent the very embodiment of this year’s WIA Awards theme – wireless workforce champions,” said President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “With her vision, AT&T has led efforts to expand diversity and inclusion as well as to educate the next generation of wireless workers. Her focus on STEM education, especially for underrepresented segments of the population such as young women and minorities, is making a big difference. Everyone who has seen Susan’s passion about expanding the wireless industry’s diversity and educational outreach understands why she has had such a huge impact on people and businesses that support the wireless economy. There is no better person to honor with the Distinguished Service Award than Susan Johnson.”
“Diversity & Inclusion is a core value to AT&T and we view our suppliers as an extension of these same core values,” Johnson said. “Earlier this year, we refreshed our Supplier Diversity Program, with the aim to stimulate diversity, job growth, and technical development, and improve diverse supplier participation, including a $3 billion 2020 targeted spend with black suppliers. These initiatives tie into AT&T Believes, an employee-led movement to help lift up the communities we serve, which has been launched in 21 cities across the U.S. With AT&T Believes we can harness our employees’ compassion for volunteerism and charitable giving, tied together with our supplier initiatives to strengthen the fabric of the communities where we live and work. Thank you to the WIA Foundation for this honor, which I accept on behalf of my colleagues at AT&T who share my passion and commitment.”
Susan Johnson is more than a 20-year veteran of AT&T and leads supply chain and procurement functions within AT&T Communications. Her organization is responsible for a spend portfolio of over $70B that covers all of AT&T’s technology, network, and goods and services, domestically and internationally. She also oversees global access management, roaming, and tower operations.
